33. Is there anything I need to do in advance?


Please note that Ingolstadt University will support you with finding an internship but will not place you in a company. Accordingly, finding an internship is the main task. The Guidelines Placements International Students provide an overview of the steps and preparations involved in joining the internship programme at Hochschule Ingolstadt.Generally the following things have to be done before travelling to Ingolstadt:

  • Submit your application to the International Office on time
  • Check the validity of your passport and identification
  • Clarify visa / entry requirements
  • Check if you have the required language ability
  • Check your financial situation and the availability of money - in the first days after your arrival you will have to pay for rent, deposit and health insurance, for example
  • If necessary, apply for a room in a hall of residence (pay attention to deadlines!)
  • Let the International Office know your arrival date (date, place, time)
  • If necessary, get hold of an adapter for your mobile phone / computer
  • Check if there are clothing requirements for your internship and make sure you have the appropriate outfit for starting your internship

34.  Where do I apply to take part in the internship programme at Ingolstadt University?


First of all you should get in touch with the international office of your home university and let them know you are interested in doing an internship in Germany. They will then get in touch with us and inform you about the necessary steps.

The documents you will need are:

  • Copy of your passport
  • Transcripts of records – filled in and signed by your home university
  • Compulsory Internships: document from your home university confirming that your internship is part of your curriculum
  • Confirmation of Enrolment at home university
  • Confirmation or internship/internship contract

35. How long before my internship starts should I arrive in Ingolstadt?


Depending on the schedule for the orientation week students should arrive 7-10 days before their internship starts. Ideally the arrival day should be during the week (not on the weekend). Please also see the Timeframe for internships in Germany.

36. What happens once I arrive in Ingolstadt?


First of all, you will take part in the Ingolstadt University orientation events. This includes registration, creating student ID, opening a bank account, registering address and applying for residence approval.

37. What documents do I have to bring to Ingolstadt?


  • Certificate of health insurance (E128 or other) from your health insurance
  • Proof of guarantee / financing (letter from parents or bank, proof of grant) that proves that you can cover the necessary expenses

38. How do I open a bank account?


In order to open a bank account in Germany, you will need the following documents:

  • Proof of registration in Germany (requires a permanent address)
  • Valid passport/identification
  • Student identification/confirmation of enrolment at Ingolstadt University

Usually student bank accounts in Germany are free of charge.
