Since the 1990s, dual study programmes are well-established at Bavarian universities. They respresent an alternative to the universities of cooperative education in Baden-Württemberg. The HAW Ingolstadt was amongst the first universities of applied sciences that introduced dual study programmes.
The faculty of business is the market leader in dual study programmes, currently representing approximately 40% of dual business students. Since more than ten years, the faculty co-operates with Siemens regarding the programme Business Administration. The study programme "International Retail Management (in German)" and in a second stage "International Retail Management (in English)" were designed in liaison with MediaSaturn and ALDI Süd. Moreover, the faculty offers a "dual" Master in Financial Management that gives graduates from dual study programmes the opportunity to proceed in both a career entry and a further academic development.
Since the foundation of the umbrella brand Hochschule Dual in 2006, the dual studies in Bavaria have gained in importance. As a result of bundling and coordination of activites of all universities, the number of dual students in Bavaria continously increased from 650 to 3.330 in the winter semester 2010/11. Approximately 400 of these are studying at the faculty of business.
