Programme Objectives:

The program “Mechanical Engineering”  is a traditional, future-oriented education program for engineers. Mechanical engineers are developing new products and organizing modern production processes. Their career fields range from technical product and project management up to consulting activities. Mechanical engineers are working either in the fields of automotive engineering, aerospace engineering, machine tools and mechanical engineering, engineering consulting or in the public sector and many other sectors.

Studying Mechanical Engineering at Ingolstadt University provides you with sound knowledge of engineering. You will turn theory into practice by using engine and roller dynamometers, wind tunnels and test control units for mechanical components and samples or by working in machine tool and energy technology laboratories. Virtual product development with e.g. CAE, CAD/CAM, FEM and simulation are important components of our program.

Project studies give you the opportunity to work with companies on specific problems at the operational level. Working in small teams facilitates the acquisition of technical know-how and social skills.

Programme Overview:

The program involves a period of study of seven semesters divided into two modules. The first module includes two theoretical semesters, whereas the second module consists of four theoretical semesters and one practical semester.

The first module includes lectures and practical courses in mathematics for engineers, computer science, physics, construction and design, machine elements, mechanics and thermodynamics, whereas machinery dynamics, measuring and control technology, fluid dynamics, production technology and electrical drives are taught in the second module. Starting from the sixth semester students will have to decide on a major field of study from the following list:
• Development, design and construction
• Production and logistics
• Automotive Engineering

General subjects like Rhetorics and Moderation techniques will complete the technical course offer.

Dual Study

Ingolstadt University offers a range of dual study programs. Students are employed under contract in industry and trade companies within the so-called “joint model” or they can absolve an advanced practical training based on a scholarship model.

Mechanical Engineering students may combine their studies with a vocational training as a/an:

  • Mechatroniker / Automotive Mechatroniker within the StEP program of AUDI AG (Certificate of the Chamber for Industry and Commerce - IHK)
  • metal worker, precision engineer, engineer for agricultural machinery and structural engineering in small and medium-sized enterprises

The combination between studies and vocational training will cover four up to five years. The trade apprenticeship will include a three-month practical training before the beginning of the study, practical semesters and, to some extent, the semester breaks. The final examination will take place during the regular period of study.
The program consists of seven semesters and it will be completed with the “Bachelor of Engineering”.

If you are interested in our dual program offer, please address all your questions to the Student Service of Ingolstadt University and to our following partners:

Internationality

Students acquire with the Bachelor of Engineering their first qualification degree after seven semesters. Graduates have the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge in Automotive Engineering or Technology Development within advanced Master's degree programs. The Master‘s degree qualifies for doctoral programs. Spending an exchange semester at one of our partner universities in Europe, Africa, America, Asia or Australia helps students to plan their studies in an international way.
