Program Objectives:

The degree program “Aerospace Engineering” stands out through its alignment with the latest developments and research trends in the field of aviation and its strong connection with business and research areas. The main focus lies on the development, construction, technical equipment and operation of civil and military aircrafts.
The program provides students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and gives them the possibility to specialize in the fields of maintenance and system integration. Therefore, the program fills a gap in the instruction of aviation engineers in Germany. Working with test rigs and flying fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircrafts are the highlights of the practical training. Studying close to an automotive and electronics industry location will offer students unique opportunities of exchange with other engineering disciplines. The interdisciplinary and international approach of “Aerospace Engineering” supports the high quality of instruction and a high development of competencies in the field of aviation.

Program Overview:

The degree program “Aerospace Engineering” is divided into a two-semester introductory and orientation module completed by an orientation exam and a five-semester module of advanced study. Students have to choose a major field of study during the second module (3rd - 7th semester). The practical semester (5th semester) and the flight training (optional) are further important components of the program.

During the study of Aerospace Engineering, students will choose between three major fields. The study field “Maintenance” includes disciplines like Maintenance, Certification, Life-Cycle-Cost-Analysis, Aircraft Fleet Management and Health Monitoring, whereas disciplines like Cockpit Avionics, Flight Control Systems, Human-Machine-Interfaces, Helmet-Visor-Technologies and Cabin Systems are components of “System Technology”. The program includes a third major field related to propulsion systems, which is at this moment in the planning stage .

Occupational Image:

There are various career opportunities for aviation engineers starting from development, design and modelling, test and validation techniques, test engineering, aircraft certification, maintenance and repair services, production and assembly up to avionics and propulsion systems. Graduates will enjoy many job and career opportunities in and around Ingolstadt, but also on the national and international markets. This is due to the yearly increasing demand for aviation engineers like in the case of the A380 and A400M aircraft projects.

Besides being one of the most rapidly developing business regions in Europe, Ingolstadt region is not only the home of famous automotive and electronics manufacturers, but also a location for several aviation industry companies like EADS (Manching), MBDA (Schrobenhausen), Eurocopter Germany (Donauwörth) and many regional medium-sized companies. The career opportunities range from working as a project manager or a design engineer up to taking full responsibility for airplane programs.

Dual Study

The degree program “Aerospace Engineering” corresponds to the dual-study model of study combined with immerged internships. The pre-study internship helps prospective students to join companies. Starting their studies at Ingolstadt University students will combine theoretical knowledge (during the semesters) with practical experience (during semester breaks and practical semester).

In order to attend a dual-study program, application shall be submitted both to the respective company and to Ingolstadt University (please note the application deadlines). For any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask our Student Counseling.
