Programme Objectives:

The Automotive Engineering program aims to provide practice-oriented education based on the latest scientific results and methods, which enable students to work independently as automotive engineers. Considering the specific needs of a modern and innovative automotive technology, students develop during the theoretical and applied modules of study a comprehensive understanding of the complex field of Automotive Engineering. They become the opportunity to select one field of study out of more and therefore to adapt the course offer to their special interests and professional expectations. Furthermore, students enhance social and methodical skills. The international profile of the program enables students to face increasing challenges and standards of global markets.

Programme Overview:

The regular period of study consists of seven semesters. The program is divided into two modules. The introductory module covers two theoretical semesters. The second module includes four theoretical semesters and a practical semester. Starting with the sixth semester, students will have to choose between "Drive train and chassis" and "Car body technology and design".

Dual Study

The dual study programs of Ingolstadt University enable students to be employed under contract in industry and to complete there a professional training in business or trade within the so-called “joint model” or to do an internship as beneficiaries of a scholarship program alongside their regular studies.

Automotive Engineering students may combine their studies with a vocational training as a:

• Metal worker, precision engineer, Automotive "Mechatroniker",
   mechanical engineer for agricultural and construction machinery
   in small and medium-sized enterprises;
• Technical product designer at PSW automotive engineering Ltd.

The combination between studies and vocational training covers a period between four and five years. Practical experience in the trade sector will be acquired during a three-month internship before the beginning of the study, practical semesters and, to some extent, semester breaks. The final examination will take place during the regular period of study. The program consists of seven semesters and it is completed by the “Bachelor of Engineering”.

Internationality

Students acquire their first qualification degree (“Bachelor of Engineering”) after seven semesters. Graduates can apply for a Master’s degree at our university and  enhance advanced knowledge in the fields of Automotive Engineering or Technical Development for Automotive and Mechanical Engineering. The Master‘s degree is the required qualification for a doctoral program.

Spending an exchange semester at one of the partner universities of Ingolstadt University in Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Australia helps our students organize their study in an international way.
