Examination Regulations

Students have to pass their pre-degree and degree examinations in order to obtain the “Diplom” or the international Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. The examination subjects are laid down in the “Program and Examination Regulations of Ingolstadt University” for each program of study. There are written exams (“Prüfungen”) and/or course-related exams (“Leistungsnachweise”).

Registration

Students must submit their registration for examinations in due form and time. The registration form must include the examination subjects. The registration is valid only for the next coming examination dates. Admission to re-examinations or missed examinations needs a new registration. Examinations will be declared invalid if the registration was not submitted in due form and time and there was no official admission to examinations. Exceptions to this rule are decided by the examination board unless the program and examination regulations stipulate it as a responsibility of the examination commission. The period of registration for examinations and course-related exams (including seminar papers, projects, internships, presentations, trainings and vhb-courses during the ongoing semester) is planned every semester according to a time schedule.

Students submit their online registration via intranet: intranet3.haw-ingolstadt.de (Note: URL is active only during the registration period). For further information on the online registration for examinations, please see FAQs.

To avoid any possible misunderstandings later on, you must print out your online registration. All subsequent claims (e.g. because of transmission errors) will be granted only on the basis of this record proof which should contain an automatically generated, individual verification number. The proof for subsequently registered examinations will be issued on request by the Examination Office.

If the online registration for exams fails despite your repeated efforts, please contact the Office of Student Affairs (Examination Office). During the registration period you will have to submit the application form dully completed and signed to the Office of Student Affairs.

Important notes:

Please consider all notices related to “Examination withdrawal”, “Reexamination deadlines”, “Omission of sending notifications” and the excerpt from the General Examination Regulations (GER) of Ingolstadt University!
Please check the accuracy of your registration no later than the end of the registration deadlines. Incorrect or missing registrations can be corrected and validated if you notify the Office of Student Affairs without delay. Ignoring your obligation to cooperate in time can be to your detriment!

Repeat-examinations

Bachelor and Master Examinations (GER § 10 Par. 1 combined § 16 APO HI):

Failed examinations (marked as “insufficient”) may be repeated during the next regular period of examinations. This shall not exceed six months after the announcement of the first examination results.

After a failed repeat-examination, you can repeat the exam for a second time within twelf months. Repeating failed exams for a third time is excluded! (§ 16 Par. 3 APO HI)

“Diplom“-Examinations (GER §26 Par. 1, 3 combined § 17 Par. 1 APO FHI):

Failed examinations (final grade: “insufficient”) can be repeated one time. In the case of partial exams only the sections evaluated with “insufficient” shall be repeated. Students may repeat but not exceed a number of 4 failed exams (incl. partial exams) during their entire course of study. Repeating failed exams for a third time is excluded!

The first repeat-examination must succeed during the next regular period of examinations. This shall not exceed six months after the announcement of the first examination results. A failed repeat-exam may be repeated during the period twelve months. In this particular case the following restriction is valid:

- Considering this maximum of repeat-examinations, you may repeat a maximum of two and incidentally three examinations in the pre-examination phase if the basic period of study covers no more than two semesters (only full examinations and not course-related examinations are counted here).

Repeating failed exams for a third time is excluded! (GER § 26 Par. 1 Sentence 6)

Bachelor's / Master's Thesis (GER § 10 Par. 2):

If a Bachelor's or a Master's thesis is marked with “insufficient”, you can repeat the final thesis only once and with a new topic. The preparing period of a Bachelor's repeat-thesis starts within 6 months after the announcement of the first results.

“Diplom“-Thesis (GER § 26 Par. 5):

If a “Diplom” thesis is marked with “insufficient”, you can repeat it only once and with a new topic. The final repeat-thesis must be submitted not later than 1 year after the announcement of the first results, notwithstanding a shorter deadline in accordance with GER § 35 Par. 4.

Disregarding Repeat-examinations:

Should you miss the repeat-thesis deadline or exceed the maximum of repeat-exams, you will be exmatriculated ex officio.

Repeat-examination deadlines remain valid despite suspension or exmatriculation of students. Upon expiration of these deadlines a new enrollment in the same program of study is definitely excluded.

Repeat-examination deadlines can be extended on request if they are justified by objective reasons (e.g. pregnancy, education of a child, illness). However, such reasons should be legitimated. In the case of illness, you will have to submit a valid medical certificate.

All examinations and re-examinations are organized (compare § 6 APO FHI) at a specified time during the semester. Please pay attention to the announcements during the courses and the notification boards of the dean’s offices.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Student Affairs.
