Accommodation in Ingolstadt is in great demand because of its proximity to Munich and also the companies located here. Accordingly you should consider enough time to look for an apartment.
Landlords in Germany usually require a deposit of around 2 months net rent when you move into the room / apartment. The deposit will be returned when you move out provided the room is not damaged. In the case of students a guarantee from their parents is often requested (written guarantee that rent will be paid).
Rooms in German halls of residence are usually fully furnished; this is not the case in private accommodation. If you are planning to move into a shared apartment, you should calculate costs for furniture.
Students are responsible for finding their own accommodation. Below you can find information on the options that are available and what you should look out for:
Halls of Residence for Students
Halls of Residence for students are usually particularly good value, centrally located and offer the advantage that you get to know other students quickly because common areas are shared. In order to get a room, you need to apply to the agency running the respective residence.
The Verein zur Förderung der internationalen Beziehungen der Fachhochschule Ingolstadt (the association that fosters international relations at Ingolstadt University) manages two particularly attractive halls of residence for international students: The Verein offers students who have come to Ingolstadt for one or more semesters fully furnished, centrally located rooms with an international atmosphere, in two locations (Schäffbräustrasse and Poppenbräu).
Shared apartments or apartments/rooms to let
Another cheap alternative is to set up a shared apartment or to rent a room in one.
The latest advertisements can be found in the Wednesday and Saturday editions of regional newspapers (e.g. Donaukurier). It is also possible to submit your own advertisement / apartment search.
Short-term, temporary accommodation
Anybody who has not found permanent accommodation yet or who needs a roof over their head after starting their studies can stay at the Ingolstadt youth hostel. Here, an overnight stay with breakfast costs around €20.
