30. How much money will I need?
Living expenses depend greatly on individual requirements and are subject to change over time. The following overview only presents a guideline in order to give you a rough idea:
Students who need a visa for Germany have to provide proof of financial resources for 670 € per month for their stay in Ingolstadt (see question 29).31. How can I find accommodation in Ingolstadt?
Accommodation in Ingolstadt is in great demand because of its proximity to Munich and the companies located here. Accordingly you should consider enough time to look for an apartment. Even though there is student housing available through the International Office places are limited and other options should be taken into consideration. Ingolstadt is a very nice and clean city and especially the historic city centre is well taken care of and beautiful. Furthermore Ingolstadt is one of the safest cities in Germany with a crime rate significantly lower than Berlin or Cologne. Being the headquarter of AUDI AG, Ingolstadt's economy is also doing well. Currently Ingolstadt has the lowest unemployment rate of any major German cities (5,1%).
For a city of that size (122.000 inhabitants) Ingolstadt offers many nightlife opportunities and going out here is fun. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the city centre, a nice Christmas market and a folk festival twice a year. Those who are still hungry for more may always take a short trip to Munich, which is only an hour’s train ride away. Ingolstadt also has Burger King, McDonald's and a Subway eatery, if you like a quick bite sometimes.
Located near the idyllic Altmühltal countryside, which is great for biking, but also for hiking or just a walk and/or relaxing on the weekends, Ingolstadt is a good destination for those who enjoy the great outdoors.
Train connections are very convenient, the ICE train stops in Ingolstadt every hour, offering fast connections to both Munich and Nuremberg (a 60 minutes ride each). Furthermore, direct ICE connections to Würzburg, Frankfurt, and other major cities are available regularly.
Public transport within the city is provided by a network of bus routes, which have good services on weekdays during daytime.
