Dual Studies at Hochschule Ingolstadt

What is Dual Study?

You have completed your school certificate and now are wondering what to do? Are you interested in studying, a vocational training or rather in an internship?
Come and discover the opportunities of dual studies!
Dual studies focus on two-track educational concepts which combine an academic degree at Ingolstadt University with practical stages within companies in the most optimal way. Basically, there are two models of dual studies: studies combined with vocational training and studies combined with immerged internships.
The “joint model” combines studies at Ingolstadt University with business or industrial training programmes (degrees of IHK-Chamber of Industry and Commerce / HWK-Chamber of Crafts and Trade) completed in a company of your choice. The period of time spent at vocational training and studies may vary according to the course of study and the training concept (IHK/HWK).
The model “immerged internship” provides students with the opportunity to complete an immerged internship during their studies in addition to the compulsory internship semester. This kind of internship is completed in a company of your choice without an IHK- or HWK-degree. The period of switching between internship stages and studies may vary according to the course of study.
Both models are based on full, regular studies.
Generally, Ingolstadt University provides all Bachelor students with the possibility to attend a dual study programme. The programmes “Internationales Handelsmanagement” and “International Retail Management” are offered exclusively as dual study programmes.

Why Dual Studies in Ingolstadt?

Our success story

Ingolstadt University’s success story in offering dual studies started 14 years ago. In 1997, joint studies were introduced within the degree programme “Engineering and Business”. This combined regular studies with a vocational training as an automotive mechanic. Ingolstadt University was one of the first Bavarian institutions of higher education to implement the new model. The model of studies combined with an immerged internship was first implemented in 2001/2001 in the degree programme “Business Administration”.

Our university has continuously increased its offers since then. With almost 800 dual students and more than 70 cooperate partners, it belongs to Bavaria’s top universities with this educational concept.

However, clear trends can be identified for each of the three faculties at Ingolstadt University. Whereas Business Administration is a very popular dual study programme in the area of business sciences, the technical area in particular includes the following programmes: Engineering and Business, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science.

How many dual students are enrolled? Which programmes do they complete? Which Federal States do they come from? Which are the programmes with restricted admission? For further information, facts and figures please see our Statistics.

Dual University (Hochschule dual) was founded in June 2006 on the initiative of Hochschule Bayern e.V. (Association of Universities of Applied Sciences) and with the support of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. This organisation focuses on the marketing of dual study offers. In the meantime, there are 240 dual study programmes in technical, commercial and social fields of study at all Bavarian universities.
